Shaffer Animal Hospital opened in August of 1999 in Oviedo, Florida by Drs. Kendra and Jeff Shaffer. After working alongside Dr. Kendra and Dr. Jeff for nearly nine years, Dr. Nicole Gerrish and Dr. Sarika Patel were very pleased to have the opportunity to purchase the practice when Dr. Jeff and Dr. Kendra retired. Dr. Gerrish and Dr. Patel strive to carry on the caring, compassionate, and quality care that clients and patients have come to expect over the years. Since opening the practice, the staff at Shaffer Animal Hospital have been blessed to serve the Oviedo area and have grown to fit our community’s need for a state-of-the-art small animal hospital, while offering grooming, training, and boarding. We appreciate the opportunity to serve you and your beloved companions!
Shaffer Animal Hospital’s mission is to provide the best possible care and utmost compassion for our clients and their companion pets. It is also a priority of our hospital to exemplify the highest level of professional conduct in providing for our clients and their pets.
Canine Influenza (H3N2)
Due to the growing concern and threat of canine influenza in the central Florida area, and to ensure that all of our pets are protected to the best of our ability, Shaffer Animal Hospital will be updating the vaccine requirements for our canine patients. For more information about the canine influenza (H3N2) virus please read the University of Florida Pet Owners Fact Sheet.
As of September 11, 20017, ALL dogs coming in for boarding, grooming, ad Dog Willing Daycare/Training Services will be REQUIRED to be vaccinated against Canine Influenza H3N2 Strain.
This new virus strain has proven to be more resilient, more contagious, and causing more severe illness in our canine patients than the previous H3N8 strain. As a result, it is still spreading rapidly and we feel mandatory vaccination is the best way to protect our patients. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we trust you understand that we will always strive to offer the best medicine we can and to make sure your pet’s health is our number one priority.
